Getting Past Procrastination

Do you find yourself procrastinating? Do find other things to do rather than what needs doing?

Well you’re not on your own, most us do this at some time in our working life and there are many reasons why we procrastinate, one of them is because we feel overwhelmed by the tasks at hand… Having so many things to do that you don’t know where to start and you aren’t able to see the wood for the trees.

So, here are just a couple of tips to help you overcome the overwhelm/procrastination:

  • Break big tasks down into small bite size pieces
  • Each day commit to completing just three tasks (or completing three of those bite size pieces if they are big tasks)
  • Choose tasks according to the time you have available, if you know you have a busy day, commit to three smaller tasks and save the bigger ones until you have some free time
  • Make sure that you complete those three tasks each day, even if you are tired or busy
  • Block out your diary, to accommodate your tasks and stick to the time allowed.

Being Accountable can often help as once you make a public commitment, it can spur you on to do what you have promised, three things you commit to completing each day, and then at the end of each day post that you have completed them. Give yourself a pat on the back, you’re on your way.

Once you start to see progress, even small steps initially, it will give you a sense of achievement and motivate you to continue and want to achieve more!
